Bee Well With Smart Health Care Decisions

After watching the film Sicko I started to feel very lucky to know what I know about alternative health and healing. This is not a review of the film nor is it a I love or hate Micheal Moore column. This is about if we can and should trust the United States health care systems that have been set up to protect us and keep us healthy. Or should we start to educate ourselves about other ways to protect our health without depending on the health care companies.

I started to educate myself at a young age about alternative and preventitive healing. I really started getting educating myself about five years ago. As one of the many Americans without health insurance, I started to find other ways to make my illness go away. I have not been to a doctor for an illness since I was a child and had health care through my parents. I am very thankful I have never been really seriously ill. Possably it is my knowledge on healthy eating and living.

You can eat an orange to get Vitamin C and help you get over a cold. Cranberries can help support a healthy urinary tract. Celery is great for your blood pressure, and the ever so delicious blueberries have amazing antioxident power. Apples are a good fiber source. Spinach is great if you need iron, and almonds can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Raw honey also has amazing health benefits such as vitamins, minerals, and antibiotic properties to help fight illness and disease, as well as  enzymes to help support a healthy digestive system. With all these yummy foods to help us fight illness and disease naturally why would we want to eat pills that are synthetic and taste gross?

This whole "I don’t need health care" attitude came back to sting me when  two months ago I fell and into a piece of artwork and had to get 10 stitches in my right  arm! I did not want to go to the Emergency room because I did not have health coverage. Soon when the shock wore off  and I was in pain I decided I needed to go to the ER and get the propper treatment no matter what the cost would be. You can never put a dollar amount on your body, even though some may disagree. I encourage you weather it be a severe illness or unsuspected accident, get the care you need and worry about the price later. Do not take risks when it comes to your health.

About three weeks ago I threw my back out while feeding my dog.  After three bottles of tigar balm, hours of rest and heating pillows I am finally back on my feet and feeling great! This is something I probably should have gone to the doctors for, and I think you sould to if this happens to you,  but with the $400 bill from my stitches hanging over my head  I thought I am tough enough and delt with it on my own.

Preventative health is the smartest way to go about mainting a healthy lifestyle. The best medacine  is fresh fruits and vegtables,  drink water, excersise, get some rest, and avoid stress by having some fun!! You can start small by adding an apple to your lunch 3 out of 5 days a week.  Enjoy a colorful salad twice a night with dinner and get as many different colors of vegtables in your salad as you can. If you have a glass of water right when you wake up in the morning it will help elimanate waste and make you feel good, before you are even out the door you have one glass of water in your body. We all know excerise is a dreadful word to some people. I recomend purchasing a cheap pair of headphones and play them loud while going for a walk.  If you can fit in 20min. of a walk five days a week you feel the benefits. Its easy, walk 10min in one direction and turn around and you are done, plus you are hopefully having fun rocking out to your favorite tunes!  This is also a great way to get some "me" time which we all need! Rest is something we all need, but never seem to get enough of. You need to discipline yourself, and please understand you are only one person and there are only 24 hours to a day. Take time to rest you deserve it. Stress is a huge factor in causing illness and disease so its time to have some fun! I know what you are thinking "this women is crazy we need to eat well, excerisise, rest, when is there time for fun?" With all of the things that life seems to hand us, fun seems to be last on the priority list but it is so important. You need to laugh and play, let out that inner child. Fun can be a dinner party with friends, a romantic night with your partner, or a few beers with some friends over some live music. Fun can be as simple as cuddling up with a blanket and reading a book, a bubble bath or car ride through the country, massages are also a great way to relief you of stress.  I would recomend seeking out a proffesional massage therapist, but if you can not just trade massages with a friend or loved one. IF IT FEELS GOOD DO IT!

We only live once and health is a huge factor in how long we get to live this one life. So untill our health care providers are willing to help us and are concerned with our health rather than the size of the wallets I am going to look for other ways to keep myself healthy.I am thinking until the United States government starts being responsable and care for its people, we the people need to step up and take care of eachother and ourselves!

Bee Well’s claims on food, excerise and fun should not take the place of your medical proffesional.  please seek medical attention when you need it.

Bee Well, I completely agree with your above article. It's amazing to me to see just how many people have no clue how to take care of their bodies, yet it's so simple. People are always coming to me with health problems, and usually the answer is always the same: more rest, more water, more veggies, more excercise. Most people fail to realize that if you're not properly hydrated, you're not getting enough oxygen to your brain and can't think clearly, or if you're not fueling your body properly, you're not going to have lasting energy. For instance, Most don't know that anxiety can be cause by lack of exercise or too much caffiene, etc. and instead are prescribed medications that only cause more side effects. A few simple lifestyle changes can make all the difference! Taking the time to learn about how your body works can save you so much money and sick time!

I am very glad that you've started this site to help educate the people. Good job and Bee Well!

Thanks for the comment NattyMegs! Its so true what you say about caffiene and don't even get me started on pharmacuetical "meds", they are the worst.
    Please keep the comments coming!
